Thursday, I went 4-1 against the spread. My only miscue was the Thunder parading yet another defensive effort worthy of the D-League.
I have no intention of this becoming a gambling blog. I have never laid down any money on a sports bet not counting the 20 bucks given to me by my wife's grandma to bet on 10 horse races at a birthday party 3 years ago. As such I still have to resort to google to check what the money lines mean and if -3 means my team is predicted to win or lose.
I am however fascinated by prediction models. I would love to see what all goes into the algorithms various sports books use to come up with their initial lines for games. Most people can pick W/L pretty effectively. I batted at least .600 when I was ten and my dad let me make his office NFL picks each week. My goal here, and ideally this will be updated as the season progresses, is to do very well at predicting W/L and see if what I do stacks up well against the spread.
Welcome to Thunder basketball, Coach. In four games Billy saw every possible facet of what a Thunder game can be. Thrilling comebacks, megastars being megastars, absolute basketball domination, and a perplexing loss. In the first week of the 15-16 NBA season Billy D. has found out what NBA life is about.
Against Orlando, he witnessed 2 of the 10 players he trotted onto the court combine for 91 of his team's 139 points. In his last season at Florida the highest point total his team accumulated was 85 points in a 35 point blowout win against an Ivy League school. Welcome to the association, rookie. |
