The following is a breakdown of a few first quarter defensive plays by the Thunder. Nothing in the game really mattered after the first quarter anyway.
Adams stays more upright than Serge and looks a little more flat footed. He doesn’t get up as close to Dirk and barely jumps on his contest. This is almost definitely a result of trying to avoid a foul.
Serge on the other hand crowds Dirk regularly bumping his chest to Dirk. He gets deeper into his stance and is prepared for a drive or shot. Serge doesn’t even jump on his contest but he is completely in Dirk’s space. It’s a very fundamental and disciplined defense that has clearly been built by Perk and Collison. Hopefully, Adams can get that same confidence and training because this is excellent defense on a stretch 4 like Dirk.
